We just rented what looks like a fantastic apartment in Aix through a company I found on the internet. I would love to know if anyone has experience with the Aix Appartment rental company (I believe it is associated with the office of tourism) just to make sure it is all legitimate and/or that it looks like how it is depicted on line.
I really appreciate your help!

Hello Madeline:
We have rented an apt in the historic centre of Aix from http://www.aixenprovencetourisme.fr. The apt looked high tech and upscale, but we were disappointed when we arrived. Read our post bellow. If you rented from the same person (Cyril F.) be aware his English language skills are very limited, and will use it to his advantage, especially because full payment is due upon arrival, and no refund in case of problems!
During the 2 weeks stay, we got the impression, this company doesn%26#39;t have to do anything with the local tourist office.
Wish you a lovely holiday, Aix is a great place to be!
%26quot;We recently spent two weeks in the lovely city of Aix en Provence, but were shocked upon arrival to our apartment as we ascended 65 steps to reach it! Further more to our surprise there was no bathroom per say: a shower and a wash basin in the bedroom on the second level, ten steps more... and the toilette located separately on the first level.
The owner Cyril does not speak a word of English and did not provide much in the sense of personal hospitality.
This place is well situated in the heart of the city, but it will grind your knees and ankles to a pulp if you stay for more than a few days!

Historic center rarely means elevator in France!
So for all that rent in historic centers, Paris included, it is a very pertinent question to ask before renting! In some buildings where there is room in the stair well small elevators are retrofitted.

Hi Madeline,
We have recently returned from a week staying with this rental company at the apartment named vendome rotonde, being the other apartment advertised on their website.
We were greeted by the aforementioned cyril at the tgv train station and taken to our apartment, free of charge, which was a very useful service.
The apartment we stayed in was reached by hi-tech security lift/elevator, and was really wonderful. It is situated in position %26#39;A%26#39; for Aix city centre and had every modern convenience including dishwasher, dvd player and a superb range of kitchenware.
We also had a lovely balcony which afforded us with views of the fountain at vendome-rotonde. The apartment also included electric security shutters and was well sound proofed so the street noise from below was hardly noticeable.
There was also air conditioning which is apparently unusual for an Aix apartment, however if you are staying here I would ask Cyril for a working demonstration, as we did not find it greatly effective(not really a problem in mid May)
This rental company has nothing to do with the tourist office, despite the similar name , but we found it totally legitimate and a great place to stay in Aix.(can%26#39;t speak for the %26#39;other%26#39; apartment of course}
Hope this helps

I am wondering if I am looking at the same apartment to rent. Was it through Aix Apartments? Is the apartment located in Place Albertas near Rue Espariat? It is a large apartment, 150 sq. meters and has a beautiful large living room with yellow printed couches. Would you please let me know if this is the one? I think I should avoid it.

Yes! That is the exact apartment. I think I read the wrong post and made an incorrect reply just a few minutes ago, but the apartment you mentioned on the place de%26#39;albertas with the yellow couches is the very apartment we rented. (BTW the yellow couches are worn out and covered with blankets)
Here is the website:
http://www.aixappartements.com/
We stayed in the Albertas apartment. The owner Laurent was most helpful. The apartment is not as nice as it appears on the website (slightly more run-down but still fine). It is also much larger than you would think. It was incredibly spacious and ideally located. We were there in the summer and it was great to have air conditioning; however we were traveling with small children and it probably would have been better for us to stay somewhere with a pool as Aix is incredibly hot in July. If you are traveling during a different season then this apartment would be perfect. If you want to stay in the heart of Aix, this is absolutely the most desirable location and the apartment itself is extremely spacious.

Madeline - Thank you. We are told that there is a fourth bedroom on the second floor. Is there? Also I think there is no toilet on the second bedroom floor. How bad were the stairs to climb to the apartment everyday? We are four women in our early 60%26#39;s. What do you think?

Here is what I remember from the apartment:
Two large bedrooms on the main floor each with its own bathroom in the hallway just outside each bedroom. One good size bedroom on the second floor and one very small bedroom on the second floor. There was a sink and shower in the small upstairs bedroom but no toilet. We just used the two bathrooms on the main floor. The living room is huge, there is a good size dining room and the kitchen is small. The building itself is ancient with very high ceilings.
There are about two or three wide flights of stairs from the ground floor to the apartment. We are in our 40s and did not find the stairs a problem whatsoever. The building itself has a lot of character and you simply cannot beat the location if you plan to walk around Aix. The apartment itself is not quite as polished and a bit more run down than it appears on the website, but overall I recommend it. It also includes air conditioning, washer %26amp; dryer.

Thank you again. I will send your response to my friends. None of us wants to sleep in bed with each other and hoped the fourth bedroom would be O.K. for an adult. We just cannot find another apartment in Aix with four separate beds, even in a three bedroom.
