Looks like we can get RER B route directly to St Michel - can anyone advise what that will cost (what zone?) If we use the metro over the next couple of days is there a good value pass which covers airport and metro or should we just pay train fare and get a carnet of 10 metro tickets?
Can anyone advise how far or directions from St Michel to hotel?
Many thanks

Bonjour highfly,
do you talk about the %26quot;HOTEL DESIGN DE LA SORBONNE%26quot; with the address %26quot;6, rue Victor Cousin - 75005 Paris%26quot;? An address is a helpful information.
The name of the next RER-station is %26quot;Luxembourg%26quot; - only 200m to the hotel (if you take the rear exit) instead of 700m from %26quot;St-Michel%26quot;.

The oneway fare from CDG zu Paris is 8,50. This ticket two times and a carnet of ticket t+ (11,60) sounds like a good combination for you b/c your hotel is in walking distance to many attractions. A dayticket %26quot;mobilis%26quot; (5,90)is cheaper if you do 6 or more rides per day. If you want to go to Versailles you need a different ticket for the RER (oneway 2,95) or a dayticket that includes zone 4 (9,80).

Many thanks for the help. It is very useful. That is the address, although the hotel confirmation just says Hotel de la Sorbonne!

When you exit the Metro, go away from the Seine (south) along St. Michel Blvd. Walk past the Cluny Museum. Within 3 or 4 blocks you will see a plaza with some restaurants on your left. Go left across the plaza to the street which is rue Victor Cousin (you will be on the backside of the Sorbonne). Turn right and follow the street to the hotel. The hotel is on your right. If you get to rue Soufflout, you have gone to far.
The easiest way is for you to look at an interactive map of Paris and map it out yourself.

The OP%26#39;s hotel is much closer to the Luxembourg RER station. The walk from St. Michel is both uphill and three times as long.
As Jochen points out, it does matter which exit you use from Luxembourg. The %26quot;rear%26quot; or northern exit is MUCH closer to your hotel. When you board the train at CDG use one of the rear carriages and exit at that end of the platform and you will save yourself a lot of unnecessary walking.

You are correct, IrishRover, but since she asked for St. Michel, those are the directions I gave. Highfly, if you get off at the Luxembourg stop, exit and go south on St. Michel Blvd, (a couple of blocks or so), turn right on r. Sofflout, turn left on r. Victor Cousin. Walk on the left side of the street, the hotel is just ahead on your left, the Sorbonne is on your right.
I used this link to figure out where to go before I was in Paris and had a good metro map.

You will have a great time. Enjoy.

Many thanks for the great advice. I asked about St Michel because that is the station the hotel website mentions. Lux. sounds much easier!

Your hotel was not lying to you. St. Michel is indeed the closest *métro* station to your hotel. Luxembourg is only a stop on the RER B line. It does not inter-connect with the métro.
If you look at a map of Paris with the métro stations marked you will see that there is a sizable %26quot;hole%26quot; in the western part of the 5th and eastern part of the 6th arrondissements, a simple accident of geography. It%26#39;s one of the reasons I%26#39;m not quite such a fan of that area as a base as most other American posters on this forum seem to be. One thing you should be aware of is that you can use your ordinary t+ métro ticket to travel between the Luxembourg RER station and any other RER station in central Paris or by transferring, anywhere on the entire métro system. So if you are headed home and don%26#39;t want the longish uphill walk from St. Michel just figure out an easy way to transfer to the RER B from wherever you are.
Or take a bus...

Hey highfly -
I just realized where you are from. Here was I thinking you were one of those %26quot;riding down from Bangor on an eastern train%26quot; types. But you%26#39;re not.
So is it still six mile to Donaghadee?

Hi Irish Rover
Toora loo, toora lay, oh it%26#39;s six miles from Bangor to Donaghadee!
I%26#39;m amazed you know that - I actually live in Donaghadee!!! And it%26#39;s still 6 miles (well 7 by the coast road)
Sorry to anyone who thinks I%26#39;ve gone cuckoo - its a song.
