A long weekend in Paris in March with my mum

Afternoon

I am planning on going to Paris for my thirtsomething birthday next march, my mum is now joining me. Would like some advice, we are planning on 4 nights hopfully if we can get an apartment rather than a hotel. I dont like it to be to busy or with too much nightlife, a good night out would be a bottle of wine and a great restaurant and being able to people watch. But we do want to be close to the sights, will be traveling by Eurostar so need to be able to get where we are staying easily with luggage. Another thing I would love to do, is go to food markets and stock up on all the great food.

I am getting confused with all the districts would anyone be able to reccommend one which may be suitable

many thanks

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find a good appartment deal for less than a week, esp. in March when things start to get busy

From what you describe, I would suggest staying near the Luxembourg gardens, which would put you in the 5th or 6th arr, depending on the street of your hotel. (I say hotel because I agree that apts--especially some of the nicer ones--are usually week rentals). That area would put you in the %26quot;center%26quot; of things as well as close to some nice street markets, including rue Mouffetard. You don%26#39;t want to get too close to the noise of that area, though, so specific hotel selection will be important--you want to be able to access the activity without being in an area that is %26quot;noisy%26quot; at night.

If you indicate a budget per night, you will get specific suggestions for suitable hotels.

In addition, with your mum and your luggage, you will just get a taxi from gare du Nord (I assume you will arrive there) to whichever hotel you choose, whether in tis area or another. It will be no more than 10 to 15 Euro.

Dear Michelle,

Centreparis rent for minimum three night breaks.

http://centreparis.com/

But in these times of recession, I have found that a lot of agencies have relaxed their minimum week rule so it is worth asking anyway even if it only gives you the weekly price. Start looking now to get a good deal and the apartment of your chioce.

Paris is divided in to district called arrondissements, numbered 1-20, which spiral out from the centre like a snail. Each arrondissement has it%26#39;s own districts like urban villages. Generally speaking the lower numbered arrondissements are nearer the Seine and sights an more expensive.

Personally I like the 7th near rue st Dominique, the 2nd near rue Montorguiel, the 5th near Rue Monge . All these have food markets nearbye. They fit your requirements. The 6th I found very busy and touristy. The 1st is near to large department stores if that is your thing and the Marias in the 3rd and 4th is very quaint with plenty to do but can get busy at weekends.

Wherever you stay, everywherein Paris is very accessible by metro or bus.

Most places are accessible from the Gare de Nord where the eurostar comes in and you would be wise just to go to the taxi rank and get a taxi. It will not cost more than 15euros maximum and will be well worth avoiding the hassle of the metro with suitcases.

Hope this helps.

Well I am sur you can find something at a good price.

Have you tried to contact the rental apartment agencies in Paris ? Because they can help you depending on your budget and also according that you do not know Paris I am sur they could help you to find a great apartment. Otherwise I can reckon you some like Lodjee ( htt://www.lodjee.com/paris ), I rent with them when I go to Rome but I know that they also have some apartment in Paris, maybe you could stay in Champs Elysees, or the Marai. Well contact them I am sur they will hepl you with your request. Otherwise the most common rental agencie is Paris appartment.com

Good luck

Morning

Thank you for everyone who replied. It has been most helpful. I think I will try and find an apartment if possible as it will offer us the most flexibility, and looking at the cost of two single rooms in a hotel it may even be cheaper, or at least we may get a bit more for our money. Looking at paying around 150 euros per night but would pay upto 200euro if it meant it would be more suitable for my mum and she would enjoy more.

We would prefer the quieter locations, long walks, seeing the sights and good food is on the adgena, not loads of night life and partying.

Thanks again, will be checking out the websites suggested and cant wait to visit Paris.

Regards

Michelle
