Nice in January

Hi

Just wondering what the weather in like in Nice in January. We are a family of 5 and are looking at stayinf for approx 7 days to have a look around after skiing in Austria, is Nice going to show us something different than Austria or will it be covered in snow as well?

Thanks

Weather in Nice in january is often bright and sunny but chilly in the shade and cold at night.

Snow in Nice itself is very very rare but the mountains round about will be white.,

January and february are the peak times of year for postcard photographers to get the views with the white mountains and brilliant blue sky and sea.

There is always lots to do and see in Nice-there isn%26#39;t a post-Xmas slump and it will be very different from Austria

Although the temp will not be high it can feel quite warm in the sun. Eating outside for lunch is quite possible. Views are often the best of the year as humidity is low and there is no heat haze. Won%26#39;t mean much to you but for a British person the most remarkable thing is that there will be many flowers in bloom and lemons ripening in the winter sun.

There is enough snow to cover the coastal landscape about once every forty years. For the tougher amongst us it is quite possible to swim in the morning and ski in the afternoon about an hour or so away.

Thanks you so much for your response, you have sealed the deal for us, so Nice here we come. Us Aussie%26#39;s need to see the sun after 3 weeks of snow.

Thanks again

My wife and I have a second home in Seillans, about 45 minutes from Nice. We are there over the holidays and head back to the USA (New England winter) in mid-January. All the comments are quite true. We love the area in January and so will you. Consider that Nice and the Cote d%26#39;Azure were once the winter playground for royalty and well-heeled Europeans looking to escape the cold and damp of more northern locales. Today, the big tourist season is August of course so we are never there then. Too many tourists. So enjoy January in Nice. We always do.
