Any new architecture of merit?

Hi

I will be in Paris in a few weeks time and I was wondering if there is any new buildings of merit that have been built in the last two years? We will be there over a weekend.

Looking forward to your reply.

If you%26#39;re interested in architecture, you might want to have a look at a relatively new museum (in an old building) - La Cité de l%26#39;Architecture et du Patrimoine in the Palais de Chailot at the Trocadero near the Eiffel Tower.

Their website only seems to be in French - don%26#39;t know if that%26#39;s any use to you.

I was fortunate to go to a reception there just after it opened in January 08, and we had a private visit of the museum beforehand. I found it fascinating. The particularly exhibition that was on then has finished now, but from looking at the website there will still be interesting stuff to see.

Oops - forgot the link to the website.

The area around the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand is a complete transformation of a roughly 8 square block area from derelict factory buildings into some really amazing modern architecture. I%26#39;ve been visiting all the worksites weekly since 2006 and am completely impressed with nearly everything they%26#39;ve done. I strongly recommend you put this area on your list.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. %26quot;Le Pavillon de l’Arsenal%26quot; is a city-run permanent exhibition space devoted nearly entirely to architecture in Paris. It%26#39;s special to me because all the architectural models of city projects like the transformation of the area around the bibliothèque and the redesign of the Forum des Halles (and the park of Les Halles) are displayed after the arch-contracts are awarded. This is an awesome place for anyone interested in modern architecture in Paris.

Here%26#39;s a translation of their web page: http://tinyurl.com/ylajsh4

Sorry to hog the page space but I love this subject. Check this project out: http://tinyurl.com/yl4np3n

For a database of approved projects in Paris (and some excellent artist renderings) do this:

On the GoogleTranslated page, click on the word %26quot;SEE%26quot; in the box near the upper-right of the page

For the French page (in the event GoogleTranslate coughs) click on the word %26quot;CONSULTER * %26quot; in the box near the upper-right of the page.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. Do you know the name of the development near the Library?

I am less interested in visiting museums and more in seeing the buildings or interesting interiors. So any other suggestions would be welcome. By the way the projects don%26#39;t have to be big developments, they can be small too, so long as they are good architecture.

Hi Grainnew,

Try this site of %26quot;a native Parisian who never stops scrutinising his home city for surprising architectural details.%26quot; The site is in French, but with photos and addresses, I think non-French readers can still enjoy his discoveries.

Same link as above to %26quot;Paris à Pied%26quot;, but trying to make it linkable.
