Burgundy By Public Transportation?

We are interested in visiting Burgundy for 5-7 days, and would prefer to do it without renting a car, taking trains and buses instead. I fear we will be told this is not feasible, but thought i would give it a shot....

Having an automobile gives you a great deal of flexibility but it is not absolutely necessary. You can take the train to Beaune for example and take tours from there.

I strongly recommend your relying upon someone%26#39;s expertise to guide you through various vineyards, production facilities, and taste testings as your experience will be vastly more interesting. Here are several you might try:

Thanks, Sarastro. We were thinking of Beaune as a possible base town. Thoughts on that, or other suggestions for a base?

Dijon would give you more train options and probably more bus and tour options. A frequent poster who goes by the name HappyinDijon should see this thread and give you more specific advice on that point. If not there is always the PM feature...

I knew these trip reports would be helpful.

There is another on the Beaune forum which I will hunt out for you.

Here it is

I hope they both help you.

I would also suggest basing yourself in Dijon which is a better transport hub than Beaune. It is also a facinating city in ts own right.

Many thanks, JBart, very helpful!

Thanks, Irish Rover and Rail Traveller. Any thoughts on possible excursions from Dijon? we have been looking at Dijon and it looks appealing as a base....

Send a PM to Happyindijon. If you don%26#39;t get any results from that (I would be surprised...) give us another holler.
