Hi -

The reason you%26#39;ve had no replies is that the Normandy sites are just too far away for a day tour from Paris. You really need to go to Bayeux or Caen by train from Paris and start your tour from there. Plan on staying over at least one night, it%26#39;s really a two day effort. The Churchill Hotel is one that is often mentioned as a place to stay in Bayeux.

There are several companies that specialize in D-Day tours that have been mentioned here on the forum so do a search, here. The battle sites are spread out and the tour companies that specialize in the area have the locations down pat.

If you%26#39;re considering going to Mont St Michel, you%26#39;ll need at least one more night away from Paris. Check your guide book and do a search on this page for information on getting there from Bayeux.

Have you considered taking the train from Paris to Bayeux and doing a full day tour the following day.

This will give you more time to visit a wider choice of Battlefield sites.

Also be very careful about some of the %26#39;recommended%26#39; Battlefield Tours posted on Tripadvisor.

Many of the %26#39;recommendations%26#39; seem to be posted by first, and only, time visitors to this site.

We just returned from Paris and did a day trip to Normandy beaches. We took an early morning train from Paris to Bayeux and arrived at 12:15. It was about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the meeting place for Normandy Sightseeing Tours for our half day Beaches of Normandy tour (50 euros per person with a 10 euro tip). We were to be picked up at the tourist center behind the Churchill hotel at 1:00. It was actually about 1:10. We then picked up one more couple at their hotel. There were 6 of us and the guide in a van. Our guide spoke excellent English. She had a wealth of knowledge that she shared with us throughout the trip, as well as some visuals for us to see to help us understand what had taken place. At the museum at the American cemetery, she bought herself a book because she is continually improving her knowledge of the area.

We went to Omaha beach and walked along the beach, visited the site with the remaining German guns, went to the American cemetery and visited the graves and the museum there. It was a rainy, blustery day. Our guide told us how fortunate we were to visit on a day like that because those were the conditions on the day of the invasion. It made for a full and emotional afternoon. Our guide asked us if we wanted to see more but all of us were ready to return back to our hotels.

Around 6:00 p.M. she drove us back to Bayeux where my husband and I walked the streets of the city to find somewhere to eat and buy a few little things. We then walked back to the train station. Our train for Paris left at 8:07. We were back in Paris by 10:16 P.M.

I feel that we were certainly able to appreciate the sacrifice and history of the invasion of Normandy even if we did not spend more time there. We were glad that we were able to at least experience what we did. I would definitely recommend this tour with this company.

If you%26#39;re pressed for time and can afford it, the train to Bayeux and a driver guide will get you the most out of the day.

Has anyone used the tour company Francetourism.com? I am interested in booking them for the Normandy Landing Beach tour.

francetourism.com is the french tourist authority. The brochure they send you will have adds in it for tour companies.

If your thinking of a day trip from Paris I%26#39;d suggest staying overnight around Bayeux and having the day to visit.
