Thanksgiving in Paris - 6D and 5N .. what all can we cover?

My husband and i are going to Paris for Thanksgiving next month. We will be staying at the Floride Etiole Hotel - i think it is 10minutes from the Eiffel Tower. I was wondering if it will be too cold to be outside and enjoy the sidewalk and the river in November ..? How should we plan our 5.5 days in Paris..?My husband and I are fond of art ... we intend to spend $100 per day for sight-seeing ...is that too little? Any interesting events in Paris during that time? Also ... would it be a good idea to see the French Riviera? We also want to see the Lido show and Moulin Rouge ...is there a way to get discounted tickets ...?Its%26#39; our first time ..sorry for asking so many questions ...but i really want this to be an awesome vacation:)

The weather is Paris is very hard to predict - it will be cold but isn%26#39;t any worse than Philly. Unless you get stuck with lots of rain it will be fine for walking.

Not sure what your $100 (65 euros) needs to cover - just sights or food also? If you are including food and sights for both of you will be tough - but can be done - you just won%26#39;t get to eat in many resturants.

If you would like to see many museums then the Paris Museum Pass is handy (4 day pass is 48 euros about $72 per person). So for $18 each you can pretty much see all the museums you want.

People either love/hate the Moulin Rouge/Lido - both are expensive - very similar to what you can get in Las Vegas.

Thanks for the reply ... which of the two is better ..? The Lido or MR?

You%26#39;ll be able to enjoy a nice day -- just bring coat/hat/etc -- as it can be achingly chilly that time of year (the thermometer doesn%26#39;t say it%26#39;s cold, but it%26#39;s damp and goes right through your bones).

The Floride Etoile is on a side street in the 16th, just off Ave. Kleber -- great location, very quiet, with lots of small restaurants around. If you dawdle, it will take you 10 minutes to get to the Tower.

Skip the Riviera -- you just don%26#39;t have time to get there and back in 5 days. Plenty to do in Paris and environs -- check your guidebook, then ask us to help fine-tune the details.

and just so you know -- Europe doesn%26#39;t celebrate Thanksgiving, so it%26#39;s just another Thursday as far as operating hours go.

There are a few restaurants that serve a Thanksgiving meal (like Breakfast in America, the Real McCoy, and...Thanksgiving) - but they%26#39;re the exception, not the rule.

First thing go to your local bookstore or public library and pick up at least one good guidebook. You should also get a street map. Streetwise makes a good one. Nobody can plan youur trip for you. You need to do the basic planning. We can help you refine it.

Also you should become familiar with the métro system and how it works before you arrive. Most places you want to go will not be within walking distance. You will really only be able to walk to the Eiffel Tower. You should still be sure to have good — I mean seriously good — walking shoes as you will likley walk more than you are used to despite the fact that you will be using the métro a lot. Go to ratp,fr and download a métro map and play around on the site a bit until you have some idea how things work.

Check out the special exhibitions at the Grand Palais (Renoir), Musée du Luxembourg (Tiffany) and Musée Rodin (Matisse %26amp; Rodin). If any of these interest you an online ticket purchase will allow you to skip the probably long lines.

Hi Skittu,

As suggested by the others,prepare your own broad plan ( it will,in fact,be fun ).Then go through the Metro and Bus maps on ratp.fr to find out the routes to your chosen sights/restaurants/spots and thereafter consider purchasing either a carnet of 10 tickets or the Paris Visite Pass whichever you find more economical. The Paris Visite Pass entitles you to a 50 % discount at the LIdo and quite a few other discounts ( you will be able to check them out on this same site ). You can then revert to forum members to fine tune your itinerary.

I will not be able to comment on the choice between Moulin Rouge or the Lido since paucity of time prevented me from visiting any night club in my visit to Paris.

Any Paris Tourism office will be able to inform ongoing events during your stay alongwith detailed advice thereon.There are quite a few in November - one being the Louis XIV exhibitions at Versailles Palace,another would be the Paris Photo exhibition ( Nov 19 to 22 ).

Rest assured - you WILL be having an awesome vacation.

You guys have been soo helpful ...thanks so much.

I will pick up a guidebook and make a nice itenary ... i%26#39;ve heard a lot of awesome things about the side walks and the musicians and the painters ... will I be able to enjoy them ..? Or will they be hibernating??

|||

Also ... where should i go for shopping ... great deals on high end clothing??

|||

Great deals don%26#39;t exist -- never on high-end, and only rarely on off-the-rack.

There are some second-hand shops around, especially in the 16th -- but be prepared for sticker shock.

Thanx :)
