We just returned from a day trip to Strasbourg and on the way home, figured we would need another 3 days, at least, to see Strasbourg. There is so much there!
There is a nice little tourist office in the main train station and you can get directions and a very useful and informative map. It is a short walk to the historic center of town. We had a great, authentic French lunch at Au Gutenberg which is at Place Gutenberg, not far from the Cathedral. I had French onion soup and a green salad with warm goat cheese and my son had the local specialty, a tart with salmon. (It looked a little like a pizza but with a very different kind of crust.) There were lots of locals eating here, too, which to me is always a good sign.
If you have limited time in Strasbourg, read about it beforehand and pick the few places that interest you the most. There is a boat trip on the river that looks interesting and was still running yesterday, even though it was very cold. The boat is covered and looked cozy.
Everywhere you look is beauty and art and elegance. I told my son that it was a good thing it was Sunday and the shops were closed because there were so many beautiful things there - not just touristy things but home furnishings, things for the kitchen, clothes, shoes, etc. Sorry to say there is also a McDonalds!
To me, Strasbourg was the quintessential European city and we are already planning another trip.

Hi,
I%26#39;m glad you liked my hometown! I love it very much, too. It%26#39;s a beautiful cultural French-German mix.
The local %26#39;pizza%26#39; is called %26#39;Tarte flambee%26#39; with lots of different toppings. Yum!
