New year in Disneyland Paris. To be or not to be?

Just realized that it might be possible to spend the afternoon and evening of 31 Dec 2009. We don%26#39;t particularly want to go on any rides but my kids will enjoy the parades and Christmas Market. We have a possible booking about 30km from the park and will be using a rental car. Is it worth the detour - I am a bit unsure as to the time spent outside (coming from South Africa we are not used to the Europene winters) and I don%26#39;t want to go and then be crushed in huge crowds. Any opinions?

Hi, things to consider;

The parks will be very busy on New Years Eve, with huge crowds.

Even if you have a valid ticket, you will not be allowed entry to the park if it has reached capacity numbers, and you take that risk if you do not arrive until the afternoon.

It is expensive if you are not planning to go on any rides.

We went to DLP a week before Christmas one year, and it was FREEZING. We had layers of clothes, ski jackets, hats, gloves. It%26#39;s ok when you are going on rides that are indoor and get the chance to warm up a bit, but gets cold standing watching parades. People will start to line the parade route at least an hour before it starts to get a good view, so it can be cold waiting.

I%26#39;m not sure if you have to buy a separate park ticket for NYE Party, which ends at 1am after the fireworks, or whether the day ticket covers all this. ( Mutter, can you help with this?)

I don%26#39;t remember much of a Christmas Market really, just a few stalls on the way into the parks in the Disney Village.(open to everyone).

I love Disney, and would never want to put anyone off going, but I have answered your questions honestly.

Hi -

There are a number of dedicated DLP web sites - Google them. They have much more specific information than you%26#39;ll find here. All of the Disney parks will be zoos and crowded to capacity over the holidays.

Thanks a lot, I think this anwers my question perfectly. Would love to go, but I think the timing is bad.

We are spending the previous 2 days in Paris but wanted to sleep outside Paris to avoid the crowds and get a quicker start en route to the alps the next morning. I think we would do better spending that morning in Paris and have a relaxing rest of the day at the BB on a farm. We%26#39;ll see lots of lights in Paris anyway.

Hi, previous reply was to Figgygirl. We are staying over in a village called Neufmoutiers-en-Brie which is about a 10min drive from Disneyland. Would it be possible to drive to close to Disney and actually see the midnight fireworks from a hilltop somewhere? This way we could see the celebration from our car and not stand outside for hours.....

Hi Mywaysa, we were there last year and as a previous poster said it was VERY cold! To be honest we werent that impressed with the firework display at midnight, maybe it was because we%26#39;d been there for 12 hours and were tired and cold and fed up of crowds but didnt think it was that good. Dont know what other people think? We also didnt notice any Christmas market unless that was the stalls by Disney Village as mentioned before?? To answer a previous poster, we didnt have to buy any separate ticket for the NYE party, just normal park tickets covered everything.

Hi, sorry to reply a bit late- I%26#39;ve been working a lot of nights lately !

Regarding watching fireworks outside Disney-

One suggestion I can make if it helps, is to drive to Disney and park in the carpark for the Disney Village. Anyone can spend the evening here, there are lots of restaurants and shops to look at, and there could well be entertainers. Look at my review of the Village to read what is there. You could book for the Buffalo Bill Wild West show, which now has Characters as well. There are 2 performances in the evening, but you would have to book this now. It includes a BBQ style meal and caters for vegetarians and non- pork diets.( tell them when booking). Look on the DLP website www.disneylandparis.co.uk or www.disneylandparis.com

The number I have for reservations is 0825 305 300.for Buffalo Bill.

You could then walk to the Hotel New York, or Newport Bay and watch the fireworks from there. I%26#39;m not sure about the New York, but we have stayed in the Newport lots of times, and I remember watching the fireworks from the windows in the bar. You could book to eat at a Disney hotel as well. Try 01 60 30 40 50. New York, Sequioa Lodge and Newport Bay are around the lake, just through the Disney Village, so can walk from the car park.

I%26#39;m fairly sure you would be able to see the high fireworks from the Disney Village as well, or from the gardens outside the park entrance. Depends how big they are !

The Disney Village also has a 15 screen cinema.

You say you don%26#39;t like crowds, but I don%26#39;t think you can avoid this on NYE in a public place. There will be a lot of people in the Village as well as the parks.

I%26#39;m not sure about parking outside Disney, as it is in an isolated area, and from the hot air balloon looked quite flat. No hills that I remember seeing.

Just in case you don%26#39;t know, there are no fireworks in Paris for New Year, but the Eiffel Tower twinkles on the hour from dusk til Midnight, for about 5 mins. Good place to see this and get good photos is from the Trocadero, as you stand behind a low wall on a high level, looking over the gardens and fountains, with the E Tower in front of you, so you can get it all in. We watched the twinkle from here in August. You need to get there early for a place though. There are also entertainers etc in that area. If you get off the metro at Trocadero, it is only a short walk. It%26#39;s a great way to see the E Tower for the 1st time. You can then walk through the gardens up to the E Tower. Tour boats go from the quay by the Tower.

Just in case you were planning to go into Paris at all.

Vikki, thanks for info about not needing separate ticket for NYE in the park. I wasn%26#39;t 100% about that.
