We are planning a trip to Normandy and the hotel is available in March. Is it still cold during mid March?
Is Paris the closest airport? We thought of flying into London and taking the train across.

Average temp is between 3 and 12 °C.
It%26#39;rs possible to fly to Caen Carpiquet or Deauville St Gatien, but not everyday.
Coming by train you end up changing at Paris so no more convenient than flying to paris.

Merci,
Il fait trop froid pour ma mere. I think i will wait and see if I can book something in May. I am taking my mother and she will be 70 years old.

Hi there
Yes, average temp may be as previous poster has suggested. However, over the past few years we have had SUPERB weather in late March and April - two years ago we were on the beach with our T-shirts and jeans rolled up (we are British!!!) at Easter. Maybe March is a little early, but definitely consider April/May. However, it is still northern Europe and there is no such thing as %26quot;guaranteed weather%26quot;. Also remember that this area is used to lower temperatures and so the accommodations will have central heating and, often, roaring open fires that you won%26#39;t get in the summer months. We have a house in Normandy and never go in summer, prefering the romance of the colder months and the allure of our open fire.
In terms of your travel arrangements, how are you thinking about getting around in France? If you%26#39;re hiring a car, I%26#39;d suggest flying into London, getting the train to Portsmouth and taking the ferry to Caen/Dieppe/Le Havre (6-7 hrs, but you can do this overnight and sleep) from there you can hire a car and you are in the heart of Normandy. Driving from Paris is a hell of a trip and not particularly interesting.
Cheers

Thank you for the update.
We have moved our plans to the month of May as my mother would like to See Giverny and the gardens don%26#39;t open until April as I have since found out.
We had planned to fly into Paris and hire a car to do some sightseeing during the week. I had planned to visit Rouen,Connelle,Giverny and Versailles. Being from the US a 3 or 4 hour drive is not much of a problem for us but I am worried about your comment that the ride is not pleasant.
Merci,
Taco

Don%26#39;t worry, it%26#39;s only not pleasant in terms of being boring - motorway driving. May is a good month, the apple blossom should be out and as you may know, Normandy is full of apple trees! The weather can often be nicer than July too.

Thiaumerie is right about the motorway being not very interesting but no big problem. If you take advantage of the A14 (north of paris to the A13 - 6 euro toll) you don%26#39;t even have to get on the peripherique coming from CDG. CDG to Giverny is about 1 1/2 hours. (traffic conditions can change that)
