Paris is a very easy city to travel around on foot by metro or by bus. The sights that people have heard about and want to see the first time they visit, like Eiffel tower, Notre Dame, Louvre, Sacre coeur etc are not in the same place so one area cannot really be the %26quot;best%26quot; for sightseeing.

What kind of things are you interested in seeing? Get a guide book from the library, or buy one and decide what is your priority. Read this forum for a while and you will get ideas.

Generally speaking the area or (arrondissements 1-7) near to the river are good places to stay to be near the more popular sights. Sacre Cour and Montmartre the artists quarter are in the 18th arrondissement.

Of course because of this these areas tend to be more expensive although Montmatre is a bit cheaper.
