I am thinking of visiting another town in France during a future Paris trip. I want to visit a town within an approximate 2 hour train ride. I was thinking about Dijon, Troyes, Lyon or somthing else. Any suggestions? I heard Lyon has some of the best food outside of Paris so that may be a factor.

I%26#39;d pick Dijon, but that%26#39;s just a personal choice. There are great restaurants wherever you go in France. Troyes is the closest and a cute town.

I personally liked Lyon. There is quite a bit to see and do, a bit more happening than Dijon.

I had the same dilemma...and ultimately chose market day in Lyon - because there%26#39;s l%26#39;Opentour and Segway tours there (though I think they have them now in Dijon as well).
We LOVED the Segway tour!

If it%26#39;s all about food so Lyon all the way. But Lyon deserves a stay of its own so you might never get back to Paris.

Thinking about it you can have a great lunch in Dijon on the way to Lyon!

I have lived near both Dijon and Lyon, and while I like Dijon, I love Lyon. So, I would vote for Lyon.

Thanks! OK, My heart is set for Lyon since I am a big food lover. I%26#39;m thinking of 3 days in Lyon as a side trip for my next Paris run.
Is 3 days reasonable?

Being a Dijon native, I would dispute the %26quot;food metropolis%26quot; title that is being given to Lyon! But, honestly, in your shoes I would go for Lyon too. It depends, if you love smallish and cute provincial capitals, Dijon is more suited. But Lyon is a %26quot;little Paris%26quot;, with a provincial feel, but small metropolis size (a bit like Brussels if you get my drift). You%26#39;ll get the famous restaurants, plus nightlife, plus great museums, plus restored bobo neighborhoods such as the Croix Rousse, etc. and it%26#39;s been taken out of its bourgeois sleepiness by the new mayor. Don%26#39;t miss the Jean Nouvel Opera house.

Have you done your trip?
If not, 3 days is certainly enough for seeing Lyon. It%26#39;s a small city.
Food wise, it depends on what you like. I love good cheese, bread, and sugary things and feel like I can get these things anywhere in France. Lyon cuisine is meat heavy. Some stuff can be nice, but I have yet to find a restaurant here that I feel crazy about.
