Line for Eiffel tower question

My mom is diabetic and the long wait in line might make her a bit dizzy. I was wondering if it possible that I stand in line to buy the tickets for our party while they wait in a nearby cafe. Then I just call them once we get in line for the elevator.

Also, has anyone tried the online advance tickets in Eiffel tower? I think they sell only 200 a day. Do you just show up at the designated time and show up? Has anyone tried this?

From when we were there, you couldn%26#39;t go get anyone after you bought the tickets, you were already through a security check and couldn%26#39;t go back out. I don%26#39;t think there would be a problem if she needed to sit down for a few minutes while you were waiting outside security, if it%26#39;s standing you%26#39;re worried about. If it%26#39;s not eating you%26#39;re worried about, I would have her bring some hard candy or some crackers to eat. You have to wait in line again for the elevator to get back down again. They didn%26#39;t have online ticketing when we went, so I can%26#39;t help you with that.

Sadly, they really aren%26#39;t set up for that. As the previous poster indicates, it%26#39;s just one line, you get your tickets and continue on to security and the elevator line. Also, there are no cafe%26#39;s %26quot;nearby%26quot; as the Eiffel is in the middle of a big open park area. I definitely would take some snacks in your pocket. If you want an obscure piece of advice, I personally think the view OF the Eiffel is better than the view FROM it. I%26#39;ve gone up twice, both daytime and nighttime, and it was ok and sort of obligatory, but definitely not the highlight of my trips to Paris. The Arc de Triomphe is much more interesting to go up in, although I think it%26#39;s all stairs. Another factor, once you are partway up the Eiffel you must get in another line to wait for the elevator to the top. It%26#39;s a LOT of waiting!

Thanks so much for the replies! That%26#39;s what I really need to know. Of course it would be ideal to have her sit down while I buy the ticket but if it%26#39;s not possible, I know we can find a way as she is pretty much used in situations much like this. Again, thanks!!

Get in line or be the first in line 45 minutes before it opens. She can sit nearby and then join you when the staff opens the gates to buy tickets. The only wait will be for it to open, then you will whisk to the top in the first lift going up. There will be eats at the cafe/shops on the second level on the way down or you can get a coffee and a pastry on the walk over there to enjoy while in line. Buy and mail postcards from the ET also. Thirty minutes at the top is plenty then you have the rest of the day to enjoy Paris. Being near the head of the line each morning works for the popular museums or other sights as well, provided you have a museum pass.

I was just there and booked on line for noon. At noon there was a special entrance and we just walked right in ahead of everyone.

Could I borrow the topic for a doubt of my own?

How does wintertime affects the lines? Is it still too long a wait? Does the cold allow you to spend time up the tower without worries?

Please note: While you can book tickets in advance (only 200 per day) -- this gets you access ONLY to the first level. If you want to go to the top, you still have to queue to buy tickets.

With your concerns about your mother consider taking a behind the scenes tour:

tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/…index.html

We did it this summer and it was well worthwhile. Both my wife and I have been up the tower several times but the tour showed us a lot more you%26#39;d never get to see otherwise.

The tour ends on the first level... you can purchase tickets there to go higher if you wish and there are a couple of cafes where your mother could get something to eat and sit down.

I thought it was well worth the 20 euros to take this tour.

We came back yesterday from Paris. The queues on saturday and sunday were horrendous. We were advised to skip the eiffel tower and instead go up the tower at montpasse. This is the tallest office block in Paris, easily reached on the metro. There were no queues, we paid our €10 and stepped straight into the lift and 38 seconds later were on the 56th floor. There is a cafe so you can sit down and look over the whole of paris including the eiffel tower. Much more civilized than all the queues and hype around the eiffel tower.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely look into that. Essexfamily, you%26#39;re right. I heard from a lot that the view from Montparanasse is better. But then again, for first timers, going up the Eiffel tower is a %26quot;must%26quot; so I guess we are going to stick it out. :-)
