Greetings!
Planning an exciting 7-9 days vacation for summer 2010 (June - August) to a destination in Europe. This will be the first visit and I hope more in the future. We look at two popular destinations: Greece (Santorini/Thira) and Italy (Venice, Rome, Florence, and Sicily).
Travel expense to Santorini is more expensive than to Italy. Both places offer classic architectural buildings and landscapes. Scenery on Santorini is unique especially at sunset. What are the exciting and memorable attractions? How would you compare Venice, Rome, Florence, and Sicily? (Personally, I enjoy watching sunrise and sunset over the ocean from high above.)
Paris (France) is a possibility. Please elaborate on why select Paris over Santorini (Greece), Venice, Florence, and Rome (Italy) for a first visit to Europe?
Food is expensive in Italy. But then food is expensive in most European destinations relative to the U.S. and Asia. How about France and Greece?
I appreciate and look forward to reading your response about those destinations.

No-one can answer your question except you.
You%26#39;re asking what%26#39;s better - an apple or an orange? They can%26#39;t be sensibly compared and only you can decide what you like best.
Re food costs, in the Eurozone it%26#39;s all much the same.

I think you need to look seriously at your time frame and the type of holiday you want. Santorini is one island, probably a sensible choice for a week whereas the places in Italy you indicate are all over, the far north of Italy and the far south, a lot of travelling for just 7-9 days.
If you are only after memorable then most of those destinations would provide that. But they are all so different, I cannot compare Paris with Santorini.
Buy some guide books, think about what you want to see. The hard thing about a European trip is narrowing it down. I usually set priorites. Where have you always dreamed to go?
I think 9 days in Paris would be a PERFECT introduction to European holidays, sure no beach sunsets but......it isn%26#39;t the most visited city in the world for nothing. Maybe 5 days in Paris and 4 in the south of France?
Good luck with deciding.
