Paris experience off the beaten track

Hi everyone

I%26#39;m heading to Paris this weekend and have been a couple of times before so done all of the main touristy things. I was hoping people could give me some hints to check out some places that are more off the beaten track. I%26#39;d like to check out some good not so touristy restaurants and visit some art galleries (particularly modern art) and some interesting museums or markets/ suburbs of Paris that are like Camden or Portabello in London.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!!!

Guidebook, guidebook, guidebook. Begged, borrowed from the library, or purchased from any decent bookseller. You might have seen the biggies, but you haven%26#39;t come anywhere near to seeing all that%26#39;s on offer in paris.

At a minimum, pop over to http://en.parisinfo.com -- the official site of the Office of Tourism in Paris.

Read Gittes travel diaries for ideas and entertainment.

Check out the Grand Marché d%26#39;Art Contemporain going on this weekend at Place de la Bastille. 500 exhibitors. 11:00 to 20:00 daily from today through November 1.

While you are in that area take a wander down to the Viaduc des Arts on avenue Daumesnil nearby. If the weather is fine you could go for a stroll along the Promenade Plantée.

For a very definitely non-touristy area to explore with a number of galleries head for Belleville and Ménilmontant in the 19th and 20th. A quick google will point you in the right direction(s). Unfortunately you will just have missed the Slick Art Show at the CentQuatre but you coiuld start with a visit there.

And these organizations will be good sources of up-to-date information:

If you have not already been there you could visit the Musée d%26#39;Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris on ave. du Président Wilson.
