Indian Restaurants

What are sone of the best Indian restaurants in Paris?

|||

We%26#39;re a bit cynical about the subject. We%26#39;ve spent hundreds of €€ over the years trying different Indian restaurants and not found anything that even approaches properly prepared Indian food. Even in the concentrated Indian food alley %26quot;Passage Brady%26quot; where there at least 30 Indian restos, it%26#39;s like they%26#39;re all competing to see who can be blander.

The preparation of the food is adjusted to French palate so there%26#39;s nothing spicy. The one possible exception was a meal we had very near our apartment at %26quot;Akash%26quot; on rue Nicolas Flamel. It was actually pretty good but they have a cockroach problem. Two meals - two CR sightings. Haven%26#39;t been back.

We did have a pretty decent meal at a %26quot;Dishny‎%26quot;, 25, Rue Cail 75010 but we don%26#39;t think it even begins to compare to what you can get in London. I can%26#39;t wait till our trip to India.

There are some excellent and pricy Indian restaurants in the nicer areas of town, but I feel that the Faubourg Saint Denis and Passage Brady are the best bets for a good meal at a reasonable price.

It is true that if you do not tell them how you want the spices, they will serve it bland for European palates. When I used to go to Passage Brady with a Pakistani colleague, however, he knew exactly how to get the spices to a reasonable level for the both of us. One time I went to one of the places with an American friend who wanted the food spicy, and we were both crying and sweating after a few bites (but otherwise it was delicious).

Not all Indians like spicy food either, so they really do expect you to tell them how spicy you want your food to be. Not giving such instructions is a mistake that a lot of people make.

My Sri Lankan neighbor sent us to the rue Cail and we had something acceptable. It may even have been at Metromole%26#39;s Dishy.

Well for us it was more than the heat factor, it came down to things like freshly baked nan instead of baked 3 hours ago and stacked up (like the crêpe stands do). The Passage Brady restos take all the shortcuts and unless you can order in Hindi or Punjabi, you%26#39;ll get watered-down food without all the wonderful condiments and exotic flavors of real Indian cuisine. We%26#39;ve tried several restos on Passage Brady and they%26#39;re all basically the same. I recommend starting on Rue Cail. It%26#39;s the ethnic Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan district of Paris.

Seems like the best Indian food in Paris,, may in fact be 2.5 hours away in London( now theres a city that does great Indian food!)

|||

It might be better, but it is not worth the price of the Eurostar ticket for a meal!

I have never been to an Indian restaurant in Paris without receiving the full range of condiments. Even when I order from the place downstairs, I get five little pots of mint sauce, chutney, etc., to go with the freshly baked nan, the raita and all of the other stuff. (Frankly what that restaurant delivers is better that what is served in their restaurant -- the website is www.allotandoori.com -- and like more and more Indian restaurants in Paris, they also do %26#39;Mexican%26#39; food! -- I haven%26#39;t dared try it.)

|||

«and like more and more Indian restaurants in Paris, they also do %26#39;Mexican%26#39; food!»

I rest my case.

I hope you were just being facetious. But that gets me off on my own rant... There is absolutely, positively, NO MEXICAN FOOD available in Paris. Imagine these French not appreciating real Mexican food!

OK, I%26#39;m being both facetious and honest. I really miss good Indian and Mexican food. Haven%26#39;t had any in a long time. Don%26#39;t want to see them on the same menu though...

|||

The best Mexican meal I ever had was in Indonesia.

|||

Anahoucali has good mexican food. Or, you could come chez moi. I buy my chilis in N. America and make the stuff from scratch... even the corn tortillas with masa harina....

Try Ravi on rue de Verneuil. I haven%26#39;t tried it but my brother recommends it.
