Paris to Bayoux - Normandy Beaches - Mont St Michel

Hi All,

My Wife and I are heading to France in April 2010 was hoping that some one can help with the Timing and whether this is realasitci? Planning to drive from Paris to Bayoux and stay 2 nights in Bayoux, with one day for visiting the D-Day beaches and museams etc. The on the third day drive to Mont St Michel, spend the day and then drive back to Paris?

Is this do-able? and what sort of time should i allow for each part?

I thank you in advance.

use www.viamichelin.com%26#39;s trip planner to work out journey times. It%26#39;s doable, for sure, provided you don%26#39;t try to visit more than a couple of the invasion beaches. You could also consider the train - www.sncf.fr - and hiring a car locally before returning by train to Paris.

P.S. It%26#39;s Bayeux not Bayoux

If you can manage it you probably should allow at least a couple more days for your trip to Normandy. There is SO much more to the region than Bayeux, the D-day beaches and MtStM. It would be a shame to be there and just go flying past so much scenery and history on the Autoroute.

That said, yes you can manage a short visit in the time you have allotted. I hope you are planning to see the beaches with one of the excellent local guides. There is much you will miss or whose significance you will not grasp if you try to do it on your own. I do not usually recommend guides. This area is one where I invariably make an exception to that rule.

As Poollounger says, on your own you could get to a couple of invasion beaches. With a guide you could get a good overview of the American and Commonwealth beaches. Point du Hoc, Omaha, American cemetery, Longues gun battery, Arromanches, Juno, Douvres radar station, Hillman and Pegasus bridge.

Your third day will be a long journey. If your based at Bayeux, a hour and a half to Mont St Michel. 2 hours for a rapid visit, lunch, then a 4 hour drive to Paris. An 8-9 hour day

I might suggest you get an early start and do the visit to Mont St Michel on your way TO Bayeux simply because getting in to Paris after a long day of touring and driving is not advisable.

We had only 2 nights in Normandy to do much the same (from the Loire valley to Bayeux and then on to Paris) and would have really loved (and benefitted from) at least one more day there.
