SIXT car rentals in France? good or bad?

Does anyone have advice on SIXT Car Rental or Global Car Rentals for France?

seem like best prices but unsure as have been advised to deal with American company.

Please advise.

I have had, at least on one occasion, problems with their not having cars available for pickup in spite of my reservation so Sixt in not really my first choice in rental companies.

I am not sure what advantages you might be referring to in reference to American companies, they are no better or worse than the European companies (there will be many stories pro and con). I recommend you contact Autoeurope (www.autoeurope.com) and compare the prices they offer to those of other companies. Autoeurope has toll free numbers (in France) in which to assist you with any problem. I have found them to be consistently cheaper than any other car rental source for rentals by residents of North America.

I%26#39;ve usually used %26quot;the usual suspects%26quot; (the big US companies) but last time tried Kemwell (maybe the same as Autoeurope?) and was quite pleased - plus, depending on what car you are getting the insurance (which IMO you do want, no matter what your credit card company tells you) may be included in the cost. I found them quite competitive, and their service was excellent. They actually contract out with local rental companies, but seem to have their act together in terms of making all necessary arrangements, etc.

Sixt is a German company. Only rented from them in Germany and Holland and they were great. Billing problem was resolved over e-mail.

On the other hand similar problems with Hertz required writing + phone calls, but it%26#39;s handled by the US office.

I think you have problems with just about all the car companies not having the car you rented available, I%26#39;ve been %26quot;upgraded%26quot; many a time because they didn%26#39;t have compact cars available.

We just went through Autoeurope in the Czech Republic and we got our car through Sixt. Once again upgraded to a compact Merecedes but the experience renting from them was fine.

Many thanks.

Bonjour -- We live in Paris and have used sixt exclusively as we found them to be the least expensive. If you book in advance and pay in advance they will give you discounts. We usually pick up our car in La Defense as it is easier to get out of town from the West side. Bring your GPS or be sure and get one in your car. We couldn%26#39;t live without it and we%26#39;ve been here over a year!

I have rented from Sixt-d twice in France, once in Paris (CDG airport location) and once from Nice airport. Both times I found them to be the cheapest availablee with no hidden or surprise costs. Everything included including mileage, insurance, etc. Both tiem s reserved on the web from hhere in Canada. Both times check out and return went smoothly and quickly. Got offered upgrades on both occasions (even though they had my car in stock). No problem with billing either. This is my car rental company of choice when traveling to europe.

Sixt is excellent to rent from (in France or Germany, in my experience). Although it is pricier closer to the time of rental, if you rent at least a few weeks in advance you can get amazing discounts. I generally stick with Hertz in the US but would love to see Sixt expand more internationally. As a German company, they have a bigger fleet of luxury cars than other companies in France so the upgrades can be quite nice. For a recent trip to France where we rented from CDG to avoid traffic in Paris, we paid a third of the asking rate of Hertz for the same car when we made our reservations. Although we still kept the Hertz reservation as a backup, it was unnecessary, since after a 15 minute wait when the Sixt agency at CDG tried to locate the Mercedes E we had reserved, they arranged for an available Mercedes S to be given to us as a free upgrade.

Also, they have no problem doing one-way rentals for those on tight schedules (unlike many American companies with premium vehicles that they do not allow one ways on). And great for Americans, they tend to have a lot of automatic transmission vehicles available, which not all French rental car companies (such as ADA) have, so if you would rather not have a manual, they are a good option (just be sure to reserve a car that says it%26#39;s automatic).

Also - just a tip - we found the service is faster if you have a Sixt Express card (a membership card, not a credit card, just like Hertz Gold). In the line, cardholders are definitely given priority and the CSRs do notice whether you are a cardholder or not.

Hello. I highly recommend Auto Europe. They are reasonably priced, not the cheapest, but they have excellent customer service, locations in all train stations, airports, etc etc and a free number to call from Europe. I use them all the time in France and Italy! Good Luck!

We booked a Sixt car rental here in the US for pick up in Avignon, not at the TGV station, and drop off at the TGV station. Everything worked well.

Hope you are not renting to drive in Paris but renting for another part of France? Cars are unnecessary for visitors in Paris.

Good luck.

PS, if you book with Sixt or any other company that uses Euros, while you are still here in the US, make sure you notify your credit card company that you are purchasing in France AND notify them when you will actually be in France.
