is anyone else having problems accessing the Chinon Tourism website http://tourisme.chinon.com/index.php ? They have a link to vacation rentals and I cannot get through the index, the link is apparently broken!
TIA

Doesn%26#39;t surprise me - the French Tourist Ofiice websites are generally pretty awful.
You%26#39;re probably better off decoding what sort of accomodation you want (hotel, chambre d%26#39;hote, gite) and researching them directly yourself.

Thanks Wiz,
I%26#39;m looking for a Gite in or near Chinon. Of course I found some nice ones on the Chinon site during my initial research but only bookmarked their main site, not the gite link! Silly me. I%26#39;ve just spent about an hour trying to find what I want googling Chinon gite and similar without much luck...sigh.
Wiz, do you know are most gite a 7 day minimum and do most have a Saturday-Sat requirement or can they be more flexible? I would prefer a Tue-mon 6 days near Chinon for 2 adults and a child, in case somoene has one handy out the back!LOL!
TIA,

Hello, I just tried and got on ok, try copying the following to link to the page you are after:
chinon-valdeloire.com/index.php/fr/hebergeme…
Traditionally cottage rentals are offered on a 7 day rental basis (most often Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun).
We have cottages to rent near le Grand Pressigny which we offer all year round from a min of 2 nights anyday arrival. (Shame we are about 40 mins away from Chinon ;) And there are plenty available out there which offer flexible length stays, it is always worth asking especially if you are looking to stay outside of peak holiday periods.
When searching for gites I suggest you check exactly where they are on google maps or similar before you proceed if close proximity to Chinon is your priority.
I have listed some links to sites with places in or near Chinon:
www.experienceloire.com
www.holiday-rentals.co.uk
www.babyfriendlyboltholes.co.uk
www.myfamilybreak.com
www.responsibletravel.com
One word of warning...please check exactly what is included in the price of your property rental before booking... we have had a couple of disgruntled guests arrive during the last few months for their second leg of their french holiday with us, who have just had a bill from the previous gite owner presented featuring a list of things NOT included in their already paid rental fee....bedding, electricity, hot water, towels all add up as they are usually charged per person per day...
Nothing wrong with an owner to choose the practice of charging per item rather than an all inc rental price but as the renter it is good to know exactly what you are paying for in advance :)
Good luck and have a good trip!

Thank you so much. That is an extrememly informative post. I had not realised about charging extra for linen, the apartments I%26#39;ve been looking at in Paris don%26#39;t seem to do so so I really appreciate the heads up on that!
