Hi , Wat would people recommend as the best place to stay in paris as a touriost. I have seen hotels in the 7th/border 15th arrondissement close to eiffel or perhaps its best to stay on other side of river there are many hotels in the 3rd for example.. Any suggestions welcome!

D%26#39;accord! I agree with Bob. It really depends on your personality. I stayed in the Latin Quarter which definitely is more fitting with my personality, but when I was in Montmartre, I liked the funky artsy neighborhood so much that I thought I would stay there next time--Lord willing--that I am in Paris. What I will add is that Paris is a walking town and if you like to walk and are comfortable with the train, you will be fine. It almost doesn%26#39;t matter where you stay as long as it%26#39;s clean, comfy, and safe. I was never in my room. I literally left the hotel by 9am and didn%26#39;t return till 1am. I was very nervous about taking the trains--thought they%26#39;d be confusing--and I%26#39;m a New Yorker! But I found the trains in Paris very easy. Much easier than the NY system. and even easier than the DC system.

The best area I have found is St Germain, close enough to walk to most of the sights, a vibrant area with bars and restaurants in abundance, 2 minutes walk from the Seine. While your there visit the restaurant atthe top of the Montparnasse tower for lunch - about ��15 per person- wonderful views over Paris!

Not only does it depend on your style/personality, it also depends on what you want to do. If you plan on spending days in the Louvre, stay near there! I would say anyplace that%26#39;s in a single digit arr. and is very close to a metro stop will be fine. I like staying near the river.

I%26#39;ve been to Paris twice lately and I%26#39;d suggest you the Marais (3rd arrondissement), expecially the part near the Picasso Museum and Rue Oberkampf, or Place de La Republique (11th). I wouldn%26#39;t stay in Montmartre - Pigalle again: if you wish to go out late in the evening to have a drink out or whatever, you%26#39;ll find a lot of pickpockets. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s a safe area at night. Also Pere Lachaise zone is not so good. Never been staying at the Latin Quarter but there%26#39;s a lot of people I know saying it%26#39;s nice. Tour Eiffel - Trocadero is nice and quiet - for me even too much - but it%26#39;s quite far from the real heart of Paris so if you miss the last tube it could be a problem, if you don%26#39;t feel like walking for a long distance!

Paris is very well connected with the metro. When I visited in April 2003, I stayed at a hotel for 3 nights at a hotel near the Eiffel Tower. It was nice, but I could hear street noise from people who were at the restaurants and the bars on the street. And then I stayed at the Hotel de Banville on the other side for two nights. I really liked the Hotel de Banville. It was quiet. And it was easy to connect on the metro to the Champs-Elysees area.

Depends what you want to do. I go to Paris a lot and I%26#39;ve stayed in the Marais umpteen times and it is my favourite part I guess because I%26#39;ve got to know this area quite well. Can also recommend the Latin Quarter. Both these are reasonable walking distance to some key sites. Have also stayed a little further away a couple of times near the Champs Elysee and also near the Eiffel Tower but found this very expensive to get home to by taxi after a night out.

Montmarte has gone to the dogs. Stay near the eiffel tower. It is clean and safe and quite well......Parisian.

Well it seems that you don%26#39;t know Paris or maybe you had not experienced it, otherwise you would not have written that. I%26#39;ve been living in Paris for over 4 months: trust me, the Tour Eiffel area is totally DEAD at night. Ok, it is lively in the tour and under the tour...but just have a look at the streets nearby and you will understand: long, large and sad avenues, just a residencial area for old rich parisian people. Only very expensive restaurants, no young people. You can walk during 15mn without finding any bakery or grocery.
For me, the real Paris is the area of Montmartre, the last village inside the city, with its pedestrians streets, its bobo artists, its painters up there on the hill. Plus if you are a backpacker, Montmartre is the area where you will find the best hostels in Paris.
Montmartre has a soul, really. Just check it out!..

Every time we go to Paris, we always stay in the 1st or 2nd arr. Never been disappointed so far.
All the hotels are all well located and walking distance to Place Vendome, Madeleine, Louvre, Orsay, etc. You may want to check with Venere.com or directly with the hotel.
