Hello,
My husband and I are first-timers to Paris. We both love history, art, great food and wine, and feeling like we%26#39;re actually visiting %26#39;Paris%26#39; instead of an area interchangeable with any other major world city.
Here%26#39;s the challenge: I%26#39;m looking for recommendations/advice/tips on hotels or B%26amp;Bs (not hostels) that are charming, romantic, have easy access to tourist cites/groceries/bakeries. However, we%26#39;re on a backpacker-like budget of accommodations for less than $100US/night (ideally under 70Euros).
Please help! Thank you VERY much!

Go to www.venere.com and see if anything there suits. BTW, $100 US is the equivalent of €67 right now. If you stick to 2* hotels, you might be able to find something. Remember, the Metro is very efficient and makes almost anywhere pretty central.

THanks - I was actually checking out venere.com while you were posting!
Any help with picking a neighborhood to help narrow my choices would be great, as well as any personal recommendations!
Romance, local flaire, tourist site access, and budget - the challenge continues!

I hate to say it but this isn%26#39;t a big challenge. The subject has been covered many times if you do a search on TA. Narrow down some hotels in your budget and search those hotels for feedback.

That covers a multitude of neighborhoods in Paris. %26#39;tourist site access%26#39; is very easy. Stay near a Metro and study the bus system. And, most importantly, use your feet and walk. Personally, while I%26#39;ve taken public transport every time I%26#39;ve been, I usually end up walking for miles and miles. I%26#39;d concentrate on finding hotels in your budget and then ask about the hotels and the neighborhoods they%26#39;re in.
I understand the anxiety of trying to find a place to stay but in your case concentrate on your budget and the %26#39;romance, local flair and tourist site access%26#39; will most likely be very close by.

Okay - I%26#39;ve taken your advice and am refining my criteria:
Ideally, a place under 70E a night in one of the following neighborhoods: 01, 04, 05, (first choices/preference) than 03/06/07. The other posts seem out of my budget...
Again, it%26#39;s difficult to find a room in that price range that doesn%26#39;t end up looking like a dorm room - any personal recommendations would be wonderful to help cut through the vast array of choices (believe me - I%26#39;m on trip advisor, venere.com, ryainair.com, etc.). Romance on the cheap?
Thanks!

Right off I%26#39;ll advise you not to stay in the Latin Quarter near St Severin area. There is nothing romantic or charming about it. I%26#39;ve been to Paris many many times and I stayed near the church (St Severin) on my trip last year and I hated it. I know - I was still in Paris - but it was the worst area I%26#39;ve ever stayed in. So crowded and touristy..... I felt like a salmon fighting my way upstream every time I walk out the door. I know there are other less croded areas in the 5th (it is a large arrondisement).
I find the 1st to be lovely in many areas and the 4th has a lot to offer. Being young you%26#39;ll probably really enjoy staying in the 4th. Lot%26#39;s to do at night and easy walking and public transport to other areas.

You can pretty much eliminate the 1st through 8th arrondissements at that price. There is a decent selection of less expensive hotels and plenty of good places to stay in the 9th through 14th arrondissements.
Look at a map and get some idea of where things are. Also dowload a métro map if you do not have one. You can find one at ratp.fr

Thank you all for your replies - I%26#39;ve been researching too!
I%26#39;d really like to stay in 1, 4, 5, or 3 areas...I%26#39;m not having much luck either, with my budget. I guess that%26#39;s why this is a challenge! Anyone else have any suggestions? We%26#39;re staying for 3 days. B%26amp;Bs and apartment rentals are also great, if you know any in my budget in those areas...
If not, any suggestions which other neighborhoods? The area around Sacre Coure looks lovely...but I also heard it%26#39;s not the safest at night. Help?
The challenge continues...

Have you tried refining your searches on TA%26#39;s own hotel search tool?
http://www.tripadvisor.com/HACSearch?geo=187147%26amp;q=Paris%2C%20France%26amp;inDay=12%26amp;inMonth=03%2F2010%26amp;checkIn=mm%2Fdd%2Fyyyy%26amp;outDay=15%26amp;outMonth=03%2F2010%26amp;checkOut=mm%2Fdd%2Fyyyy%26amp;searchAll=true%26amp;adults=1%26amp;cat_1=1%26amp;geo=187147%26amp;refineForm=true%26amp;hs=%26amp;sortOrder=bv_popHigh%26amp;availability=%26amp;l1price=0%2C100%26amp;l1rating=0%2C999999%26amp;zfn_0=0%26amp;zfc_0=0%26amp;zfa_0=0%26amp;zfb_0=0%26amp;zfb_0=0%26amp;nameContains=%26amp;t_0=0%26amp;l1currency=0#02,1256589520155,bc_airports:S,bc_convention_centers:S,cb:Azfn_10|zfn_11|zfn_14|zfn_17|zfn_19,sortOrder:Sbv_popHigh,l1price:S0|100,l1rating:S0|999999,nameContains:S,sa:-1
boy, that%26#39;s a long link, I%26#39;ll be interested to know it works!

THanks for the tip... but %26quot;the query was too long%26quot;, so it didn%26#39;t work.
Within Trip Advisor, I%26#39;ve searched by pirce, checked every address, than googled the hotel to confirm the rates on TA match (which they don%26#39;t about 1/3 of the time). No such luck for under $100 in areas 1, 4, 5, 3.
Anybody else having luck? I hope this thread works out, since it could help other people in a similar position....
