Get there soon!! Spent almost a week at the Paris-Madrid in September %26#39;09 and had the most enjoyable time in a very off-the-wall, comfortable hotel where the owners treat you (almost) like family. This is not 3, or even a 2 star hotel, but if you want a decent, clean, warm, friendly experience, book the P-M.
It%26#39;s about 50 yards away to the left after you exit the train station, overlooks the gate controlled bus/car parking lot in front of the hotel/station (I never heard noise), and the price doesn%26#39;t get better. There%26#39;s the usual bread, croissant, tea/coffee breakfast included (all very fresh), personal attention from the owners, Sylvie and Patrick, and a very %26quot;down-home%26quot; feeling to the whole experience.
%26quot;Get there soon%26#39; -I say that as the P-M will soon be closed (December/January??) as the SNCF need to enlarge the station because of increased high-speed trains passing through. What a terrible, terrible shame. Ask for room 25 on the top floor (no lift) where the smokers get a balcony to grab a puff, a great view over the town and train station, and all for less than 50Euros per night.
I don%26#39;t think Sylvie and Patrick are looking for business as there was usually a sign on the foyer door that they were full that night. If you%26#39;re planning ahead though, send them an email and see what%26#39;s available. You won%26#39;t be disappointed unless you want a 3 star for the price of a 1 star.
